Hi ,
Â
The dolphins love us, whether we deserve it or not, but of course, we do. Every year when my husband Alan and I visit them in Florida, it's fresh and new at the Dolphin Research Center.
Â
The DRC's this great place in Marathon, Florida Keys, with enthusiastic trainers and even more excited and playful dolphins. Many of the dolphins here were born at the facility, some rescued. There are multiple lagoons where the dolphins swim and perform daily. (See photos below.) And it's all mostly just for fun.
Â
You get to know your favorites by name and feel the joy as they leap into the air, cruise by in the lagoon eyeballing you, or just clown around. These marine mammals are like big puppies, eager to please and sometimes displaying a mischievous side.
Â
This past March, Alan and I forked out the bucks to get in the water with the dolphins. The DRC provided trainer Adam to help Alan in the water, and I was enraptured during our Dolphin Encounter swim. We felt the smooth sides of the bottlenose dolphins as they cruised by, and we were instructed to rub their flippers with our hands. They "danced" with us. As a grand finale, we each got a tow around the lagoon, sensing their powerful bodies as we hung onto their dorsal fins.
Â
Yes, these amazing creatures have much to teach us about our daily lives: to have fun and to do what lights you up. The dolphins are trained by positive reinforcement only. There is no penalty if they ignore a command. Check out the photos below and be sure and play like a dolphin today.
Â
Sending you much love, rays of golden sunlight, and peace,
Cathy
