SUMMER OF THE FAERIES

Hello ,

I must confess, this time of year it's a priority to get outside. I have been procrastinating about my newsletter writing because I've been outside walking, watering the garden, mulching a bit here and there, and soaking up every possible moment I can in the sun. Summer goes so quickly and it's so much fun to connect with Mama Earth and her creations.

IT'S FANTASY, BUT IT REALLY ISN'T

For those of you who don't read fantasy, you might be pleasantly surprised to read my Lilith & the Faeries Series. It's set in the here and now, not some fantasy world. The characters are engaging and have real life challenges. And the romance angle is good, as well, but the stories are more about a life of adventure and joy.

And of course, the information in the stories can help you connect with the spirits of nature and faery beings. So if you haven't tried one of my faery novels, please do. They're fun and happy, with some sort of mystery and adventure thrown in to take your mind off those dishes in the sink.

ARE YOU A PEOPLE PLEASER?

I grew up in a small town near Dayton, Ohio, and was raised to be nice to others at all costs. People pleasing was trained into me as a way of life, but somehow I was never on the list of those to be pleased. And that's the dark side of people pleasing--you can run yourself dry if your needs are never met.

Penny Pearce writes about this in one of her books about energy practices and management. She says that people pleasing is a poor use of one's energy. In other words, being our authentic self is better for everyone involved. I get that and believe that being kind and considerate can pave the way to attending to your own needs as well as that of others.

So I am still working on this one. How about you?

FAERIES, FAERIES, EVERYWHERE

Here in Pittsburgh, green stuff is popping up everywhere. I've got lemon balm growing in the cracks between the cement driveway slabs, a jungle of vines and plants flourishing between the yard and woods. And a stump in the woods with a whirl of ivy like a healthy head of hair upon it. I admire it from afar, because it's poison ivy.

The neighbor across the street has a more creative hillside floral display as native species take hold and grow. We call them weeds, but the faeries love these areas that revert to wildness. I imagine that they're very busy and happy these days.

So this is Prime Time to connect with the little angels of nature. Every chance you get, you might want to garden or sit quietly in the woods or do whatever you can to build a bridge to them. They'd love you to be near, for you're dear to them. They know another way of being and we can profit so much from our time spent in nature.
